The Bird

I was house sitting for my Aunt. Everything so far was going great. While watching tv, I heard a loud crash. It sounded like someone threw something at the back-glass door. A little irritated that someone would do that, I got up to investigate. Instead of a seeing a ball on the porch, there was a bird. The bird was a quail. It was moving on the ground in intense pain. Panicked I called my dad. "Dad, a quail flew into the back-glass door and is still alive, it looks like it is in pain. What do I do?" While explaining this to him, the quail stopped moving. I stared at the face-down limp body. "I think it has died" "Ok, you just have to get a shovel and bury it." "Bury it?? Shouldn't I call animal control or something? What if it is still alive?" I did not want to bury a bird. For some reason I kept on picturing the quail still being alive and I would nurse it back to health. "If it is still alive, put on some glove, pick it up, and...

I Sewed a Scarf

Image
You are probably not going to be surprised but... this week has been very hectic and stressful. I'm now realizing that I begin every post with that, but the statement is so true. Well I sewed a scarf. I had actually sewed this before I had sewed the skirt. I honestly love it! I am wearing the scarf as I am writing this post. I have a slight "Mad Men" obsession. I am now in season four and I started it last week...so this past week I have been really obsessed with the sixties. I try to dress like it. I now listen to the Beatles in my car. Honestly, I hope that this isn't a phase. Okay sorry, now back to the scarf. It is a very easy sewing project. I had gotten the directions from the book "Love at First Stitch". As soon as I have sewn everything in the book I promise I will write a review. Next week is going to be very hectic for me (I am house-sitting, going to school full time, and will be working 41 hours), so I may or may not post.  If you would like to f...

I Sewed a Skirt

Image
I have always been intrigued by sewing. In eighth grade I stayed at my grandparents for a month and my grandma taught me how to sew.  I didn't sew much after that trip though, about two years after that trip a sewed a  Halloween costume.  My mom isn't really into sewing and wouldn't help me pick out the right fabrics or how to work her old and complicated sewing machine. About a month ago I decided that I am going to learn how to sew.  My Aunt, who is really good at sewing, helped me pick out a swing a machine (I am planning on doing a blog post on this later) and purchase the book "Love at First Stitch" by Tilly from the blog "Tilly and the Buttons". I also may have read her entire blog.  With a new-refurbished- sewing machine and a book to help me out I set out on sewing a skirt. I chose a light caramel colored corduroy fabric.  The skirt is a little too big, but still fits fine.  This is a new staple piece and I can't wait to plan more outfi...

Disneyland

Image
Ok, so this week has been super stressful! I have been so emotional and busy that I just did not have the time to post.  So when you have a tough week the best thing to think about is... DISNEYLAND!!!  So when I was in California three weeks ago I went to Disneyland.  I have never gone to Disneyland on a Saturday and during the summer (I may have when I was young, but the annual passes I buy are blocked out on weekends and peek seasons, which is holidays and summer).  So while in town I bought a ticket and went. I got to go on the new Guardians of the Galaxy ride. This ride is awesome! I went on it at least three times.  I actually had left Disneyland, went on it and some other ride at California Adventure, went back to Disneyland and then left Disneyland again to ride two more times! Me leaving Disneyland again to go back to California for a second time is a big deal, I am what you would call a Disneyland purest, so me leaving Disneyland again to go to Califo...

School has Started and I met Puppies!

Image
School has started this week.  I am now in major shock on the amount of money I have to spend on textbooks:(  I also got to meet puppies! There are five in the litter!  They are Decker Rat Terriers.  Yes the name is really weird, but the puppies are adorable! So get your crap together and suppress the stress of school with puppies! Also if you have any questions or comments, you know the drill;)

Six Flags Magic Mountain

While in California I got to go to Six Flags with my brother and Aunt.  I will be honest I grew up only living five minute from Six Flags and have had a season pass since third grade.  When I got older and could drive I stopped going because I would rather go to Universal Studios or Disneyland (at one point I had an annual pass to all three parks!).  So it had been awhile since I have gone to Six Flags Magic Mountain. When I used to go, growing up I would only go for a couple of hours and then leave when I got hungry.  I am now very impressed with third grade Becca who could easily spend a whole day at Magic Mountain.  I barely survived this trip.  I suddenly feel so old.  Every ride would leave me exhausted and in pain, I can easily stay at Disneyland from opening to close (8 am-12 am).  I had gotten to the park before opening (it opened at 10:30) and by 4:30 I was done. I physically could not go on another ride. I did get to go on the new Ju...

Santa Barbara Zoo

Image
I'm so sorry for not posting the past couple of weeks.  I went back to California for a week and then tried to catch up on all the schoolwork I had missed.  So while in California I went to the Santa Barbara Zoo.  It's been a while since I have been to a zoo and I really enjoyed it.  The Santa Barbara Zoo feels like it is tucked away.  It isn't too big so it was a nice little afternoon trip.  If you have young kids I highly recommend checking it out!  One of my favorite parts of the zoo was the little park that they had.  In the park there was a "hill" which consisted of concrete (or some other material) that was covered in turf.  Kids would slide down the hill on pieces of cardboard.  My little cousin did not want to leave the park!  There was also a cute dinosaur show where you go to train a T-Rex and watch a dinosaur lay eggs (that part was a little interesting). So if you  are looking for one last day trip to do with your k...
